Sammode and Tehdasvalo – Quality and Durability in Lighting with Nearly a Century of Experience

Sammode is a pioneer in lighting solutions, with roots dating back to 1927 in France. For almost a hundred years, Sammode has been designing and manufacturing lighting solutions for the needs of industry, architecture and the public sector. The company is independent and family-owned, and from the very beginning its operations have been built on innovation, sustainability and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Sammode is particularly renowned for the exceptional durability and timeless design of its products. Industrial companies, architects and public authorities around the world rely on Sammode lighting solutions for their performance and long service life.

Cooperation with Tehdasvalo

Tehdasvalo acts as the distributor of Sammode in Finland for industrial lighting, covering demanding applications in industry, ATEX environments and the food industry. In Finland, architectural and public lighting product groups are handled by a separate distributor specialised in that field.

The cooperation began in the early 2000s, when Sammode was looking for a partner for the Finnish market. The first contacts and meetings were arranged via the French Embassy, and since then Tehdasvalo and Sammode have been working together to deliver industrial lighting solutions for Finnish customers.

Sammode products in Tehdasvalo’s range

Through Tehdasvalo, a wide range of Sammode lighting solutions is available for environments where lighting must withstand the most demanding conditions – whether extreme temperatures or explosive atmospheres.

Lighting solutions for high-temperature environments

Sammode lighting solutions operate reliably in environments where ambient temperatures range from +70 °C up to +200 °C. Typical applications include professional kitchen hoods, paper mill drying machines, malting kilns, cooking areas in the food industry, and production lines in the steel and glass industries.

The range includes, among others:

  • Rankine X-heat, -20 °C to +70 °C, industrial process lighting (1,650–2,475 lm)
  • Joule X-heat, -20 °C to +85 °C, for general lighting (1,850–4,625 lm)
  • Leslie X-heat, -20 °C to +105 °C, bringing light to the heart of industrial processes (1,850–4,625 lm)
  • Pauli HT200 X-heat, -20 °C to +200 °C, the ultimate solution for extreme conditions

ATEX lighting solutions for explosive atmospheres

ATEX lighting solutions are designed to withstand hazardous gases, vapours and dust in environments where there is a risk of explosion. They comply with strict safety standards aimed at protecting personnel and minimising explosion risks in a wide range of industrial applications. lighting solutions developed for explosive atmospheres feature robust, sealed constructions designed to prevent sparking and excessive heat build-up from electrical components. Modern LED technology ensures an energy-efficient, durable and low-maintenance lighting solution for demanding conditions.

Sammode’s ATEX lighting solutions are designed for gas and dust explosion-risk areas (Zones 1, 2, 21 and 22). Their development is based on extensive experience in industries such as chemicals, oil refining, and grain handling and storage.

Key features of Sammode ATEX lighting solutions:

  • Structural durability: stainless steels (304L/316L), with housings made of borosilicate glass, polycarbonate or composite structures (PC & PMMA).
  • Ingress protection: IP68/IP69K, ensuring resistance to marine environments and high-pressure washing.
  • Serviceability: all components are replaceable, extending service life and enabling the use of the latest technology.
  • Performance: high-efficiency LED modules ensure reliable operation even at extreme temperatures.
  • Visual comfort: a combination of high luminous output and pleasant lighting quality.

Sammode offers up to an 8-year warranty for its EX lighting solutions, reflecting the manufacturer’s strong commitment to quality and durability.

The range includes, for example:

  • Sabatier Xtrem, -20 °C to +50 °C, tubular lighting solution for the most hazardous explosive gas zones (2,000–7,700 lm)
  • Alder, -20 °C to +35 °C, the ideal combination of safety and functionality for lighting ATEX gas zones (2,000–7,700 lm)

Lighting for demanding food industry environments

Facilities in the food industry – such as dairies, cheese plants, clean rooms and sugar refineries – require exceptional hygiene and durability from lighting. Sammode offers food-approved lighting solutions that comply with IFS/BRC standards and are ideally suited for applications where hygiene is critical.

The tubular, smooth-surfaced design prevents the accumulation of contaminants, while stainless steel construction withstands chemically aggressive environments, including areas washed alternately with acidic and alkaline detergents. IP69K ingress protection allows safe high-pressure washing, and the fully sealed design ensures consistent performance year after year.

Sammode also addresses extreme temperature challenges in food production. The range includes lighting solutions for high-temperature environments up to +200 °C as well as cold storage solutions down to –60 °C.

Malting plants, storage silos and distilleries present additional challenges: dust explosion risks require ATEX 21/22 classifications, while high temperatures, humidity, vibration and mechanical stress must also be taken into account. Sammode meets these demands with a broad range of ATEX-certified tubular lighting solutions that are dust-tight, modular and long-lasting. High-output versions of up to 11,000 lm provide a safe, low-maintenance solution even for high industrial spaces.

A shared goal: sustainable and responsible lighting solutions

Both Sammode and Tehdasvalo share the same core values: lighting solutions must be durable, long-lasting and responsibly manufactured. This philosophy is evident in product design, material choices and lifecycle thinking.

Thanks to this cooperation, Finnish industrial customers benefit from Sammode’s nearly 100 years of expertise combined with Tehdasvalo’s local knowledge and service.
